We have all met them...people who think their kids are just plain better, smarter, faster, cuter than anyone elses. Why do some parents and grandparents have to be so holier than though and so competitive?
There are the parents and grandparents that go on and on about how cute their kids and grandkids are, how much smarter they are, how they can run faster, and they are just plain better. But, how are they on the inside? Are they kind? Do they have a heart? Or, do they just think they are better than everyone else? Because, as adults, we all avoid people who think they are better than us, don't we? We have a word for them...annoying I think.
Alivia would not and may never read in front of the class, but she can read. There are those parents who go on and on about how amazing their kid, how they walked at 5 months, talked at 6 months in sentences, and were reading books by an early age. We are talking about kids here, right? We are not talking about high school or college students or the next up and coming President. Does it matter? Let kids be kids. Why are we rushing our kids into getting the leading edge on school? They are going to be in school 13 years, then on to 4 years of college or more depending on what they want to do. Why do they need to know these things before they are fully potty trained or out of a toddler bed? If kiddos are ahead of the game, I think that is great! Good for them! But, the parents and grandparents that go on and on about it...well...eh...
Perhaps I am more annoyed by it because of overexposure from different sources in our lives that we have no choice but be around. There are some people that Chris and I have to encounter often that talk so much about their amazing kids without rarely asking about our kids. Yes, I take it personally, especially when it affects our kids. Our kids may not notice now, but they will. I dread that day because I have no explanation.
Well, I am the proud Mommy of 3 kiddos who are beautiful on the inside! That is the way God intended. You can be as cute as a button (what does that mean anyway?) and as smart as a 5th grader before out of training pants, but does it really matter?
