I did not really know what to do today. My plans for our staycation were thrown away when beautiful spring weather arrived!

So, we decided to go to the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge. We arrived, parked far away, and started walking towards the bridge. We arrived on a beautiful day to find the bridge was closed for repairs! What's a family to do? So, we walked the riverwalk towards the Heartland of America Park. I wanted to take the kids there anyway!

What a beautiful day to walk through a beautiful park. We were greeted by geese, swans and ducks. We got out the crackers and fed them. Birds were coming from everywhere to get a piece of cracker. I am not sure we were supposed to be feeding them, the kids had a lot of fun. We walked all the way around the park ending up at a picnic table just in time for a picnic. Have a mentioned how fabulous the weather was today? The car said 78 degrees at one point today!

We walked into the wind back to the car. The kids settled into their car seats as we rode to our next adventure.

We arrived at my parent's farm about 1:00, dropped off the girls, and Asher and I went to the airport for a little airplane ride (Addi and Alivia did not want to go). Once at the airport, I opened the van door and awoke Asher. He had not a clue where he was or what we were about to do. He looked around then at me, then at Grandpa. We got him out of his seat and into the cockpit of the airplane. What a way to wake up from a nap!

The flight was a little bumpy with the wind and a little warm, but I was the only one who seemed to mind. Asher peeked out the window to take in the sights. We saw my parent's farm and a lot of windmills from the air.

We went back to the farm to play for a bit. Asher rode in Grandpa's tractor and really liked that. We got home just in time to pick up Subway for dinner and meet Chris at home.

What another fun day! What will tomorrow bring?

Stories & Songs at the Gingerbread House

Sleeping Asher Before Night Time StoriesNight Night Addison before Story TimeAddison at StorytimeAddi & AsherStory timeAddi & Mrs. Gohr

Tonight was story time at the Gingerbread House, Addison's preschool. Addi was so excited. But, without a nap for 2 days in a row, Addi and Asher were exhausted! They both fell asleep on the way there (Alivia opted to stay home with Daddy as she was too tired). Story time was so cute and fun. They sing and dance and the teachers read stories. It is fun to see Addi in action. I absolutely love the Gingerbread House...I just wish it was closer to our home. At this point, I am thinking Asher will go to the Gingerbread House when he becomes a big boy! :)

What a fun day and sealed with stories...nothing better.

Staycation Day 2

Today Addison had preschool. Before preschool even began, we went to Target to pick up a pair of shoes for Addison. We then took Addison to preschool. Alivia, Asher and I ran one quick errand before heading to Piedmont Park to play! Alivia was so excited she was running around screaming. She loved the park, and so did Asher. The weather was beautiful. We had to run to exchange a shirt at Carter's before picking up Addison at preschool. Funny, they did not have the right sized shirt at Carter's but the wrong sized shirt never made it back to the car. We looked and looked for the shirt...but it simply walked off during our walk back to the car. So frustrating!

We picked up Addison early so Alivia could eat lunch and go to recess with her friends at Standing Bear, her previous elementary school. She was so excited! We arrived at Standing Bear about 11:00 and met up with her old class as they were lining up for lunch. The kids were so excited to see Alivia! They all wanted to sit by her. It was so cute. Someone asked Alivia if she liked her new school better, and Alivia said, "I like Standing Bear better!" It was so sad to hear that! But, it came as no surprise to me. After lunch she ran around outside with her friends. Addison and Asher had fun playing with Anna. It was a fun way to spend a lunch hour. Addison and Asher even enjoyed eating at school and recess! What fun for them to get to see what that is all about.

After lunch we went to McDonald's for a little treat - ice cream! What a mess but it was oh so good. It took Addison all the way home from Northwest Omaha to work on eating her cone. As we drove up Ponderosa Drive for home, she handed me the mooshed and dripping ice cream cone and said, "I'm all done, Mommy." Lovely.  I did get to eat Asher's though. Mmmm!

After a quick clean up, we drove up to the Bell Elementary play ground. Addison, Asher, and I have never been there. It is pretty nice. However, Asher had to go #2, so we had to leave. But, it was so worth it as Asher went #2 on the potty the first time! SUCCESS! Then we walked back up to the park for more play. By the time we got home about 4, we were all totally exhausted from playing and from that awful wind!

After dinner, we took our first family walk around the lake. Addison ran, or I should say sprinted, around the lake. We went half way around, then made out way back home (not on sidewalks yet). It is so pretty. It is really a peaceful walk, wind aside. Once back at home, we cleaned up just in time to leave again. We ended the night with stories at the Gingerbread House!

Seriously, this staycation stuff is fun, but exhausting. What will tomorrow bring?

Playing in the dirt

Playing in the dirt - round 250 wheelbarrows and still going strongMore playing in the dirtNot even close to being done.

Does this look like fun? Well, let me help you out - NO! Our home needs to be backfilled badly. Funny, we lived in our previous home for 9 years and we never did this. Yes, it needed it, too. The problem we have now is that the dirt in sinking all around our home. There are areas of big holes, actually. So, in our free time (ha!), Chris and I (yes, I am not only taking pictures but I am actually helping, too), we are hauling dirt and dumping it around our home. Next, we will have to apply a need layer of mulch before finally planting something in there. By then we will be dead. Ha!
