Visit to the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge

Today we took our second visit to the the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge (select link to see the live webcam). We parked right along Riverfront Drive in parallel parking beside these nice condos, just a few steps away from the bridge (We have parked here both visits, but I am thinking on a busy weekend this area would be packed). It turned out to be the perfect day because it was cool, in the 70's. The kids actually asked for coats! We walked over the 3000 foot cable stay bridge located off of Riverfront Drive. It was windy, cool and cloudy, but it was still beautiful. One can just sit on the bridge, watching walkers, bikers, runners, boaters, etc, for hours! However, my kids are not into sitting just yet. Once on the Iowa side, we walked over to Playland park to play. The girls found a new friend to play with while Asher did his own thing. It was fun! Then, we walked back over the bridge, changed into swimsuits, and played at the little splash park they have at the foot of the bridge. Like I said, it was cool. So, within 5 minutes, Addison's lips and fingers were turning purple and she was shivering. We briefly checked out the Teepees nearby and were on our way.

It was a fun morning. I think the plan for next time is to bring the bikes and go for long bike rides in the area with the kids.

Planning a visit to the bridge? Things to bring
Bikes for kiddos 5 and older (unless they want to walk)
Stroller
Snacks and drinks
Hand wipes/sanitizer
swimming suits/towels
picnic lunch
& Have fun!
