Our car is used. We believe in buying used with exceptions, however, Our camry we purchased new because at the time the savings was only $1000 for a used one versus a new one. When buying this van, on the other hand, we saved about $14000 buying used versus a new one just like it (but newer without miles of course...but who's counting, right?). In addition, used mini vans are selling below MSRP now because everyone is trading in for smaller cars because of the high gas prices (but if you have a Prius, a used one is selling at the same price as a new one!). Chris and I hated to write the check for a used one let alone a brand new one. Although we had saved for this car, it was still difficult to see the money go (especially for a mini van!).
Now, what will our next savings goal be...
