Lauritzen Gardens

Today is National Public Gardens Day! Who knew, right? Anyway, because of the holiday, the Lauritzen Gardens has free admission today. Yeah!

So, after dropping off Alivia at school, Addison, Asher and set out to the gardens! We arrived early enough to walk up the stairs to see the big trains. Addison and Asher liked the stairs I believe more than the train itself! They wanted to go inside, and the trains are for outside view only.

The gardens actually opened their doors before the 9 AM opening, so we were one of the first ones to enter the gardens. It was so peaceful, quiet and smelled amazing! The kids liked looking at the many faces of artwork scattered throughout the gardens. They liked walking the trails, looking for fish in the ponds, and they especially liked the trains! We could have sat and watched the trains all day! The amazing model trains are so cool and they CHOOO CHOOO through tunnels, over bridges and by buildings that look like those of Omaha but are made of plant material. The kids were amazed. Since it had been a couple years since we visited the gardens, Asher did not remember anything and Addison remembered the trains.

It was a fun morning. We stayed just shy of 2 hours. By the time we left, the kids were totally wiped out from walking, and the crowds of people, elderly and babies alike, were just rolling in. I believe 9AM was a great time to hit the gardens!

What an amazing place to visit! I can hardly wait to return!

Going to the Omaha Botanical Gardens?
* Wear walking shoes, because there is a some walking involved
* Bring a stroller for little ones. I didn't because I wanted the kids to walk. Addi and Asher are getting too big for the stroller. :(
* Bring snacks and drinks. All that walking can make you hungry and thirsty. There are restrooms inside the main building and at the fall end of the gardens. Perfect placement for tiny little bladders!
* $6 for adults $3 for kids on a normal day.
* & don't forget your camera!
