May Day 2012

May "baskets" were made of spider man and tangled cups, treats, with a ribbon handle.

Run!!

Addison's expression is priceless!
Gees, does nobody know what happens on May Day anymore or am I just that old or just from the sticks (or all of them?!). :)

The big Wikipedia states, In some parts of the US, "May Baskets are made. These are small baskets usually filled with flowers or treats and left at someone's doorstep. The giver rings the bell and runs away. The person receiving the basket tries to catch the fleeing giver. If they catch the person, a kiss is exchanged."

Okay, no kisses were exchanged (and I did not know THAT part!). But, the kids had fun. And, they actually got two back this year. Perhaps we are starting a new trend. :)

Happy May Day 2011!

May 1 is May Day, aka May Basket Day. Last year I said I would be more prepared.

I was wrong.

Yesterday the kids and I went shopping for popcorn and a few treats. I found some cute cups to make into our "Baskets," and then the kids and Daddy filled them today.

This afternoon, they were ready to deliver. The kids and I made a list of who to give the baskets to and set out.

It is so fun to see the kids sit the May treats down and dart off to the waiting car. Asher was huffy and puffing as he tried to run as fast as his short legs would allow, Addison watched at first before really getting into it, and Alivia was as fast as a fox! It was a lot of fun!

Until next year...Happy May Day!

Happy May Day!

Oh, remember as kids when we got surprised by May Baskets at the door? Well, as with any holiday, we had to make sure this holiday was special for our kids too. First, yesterday, Alivia helped me make the May Baskets for her friends and classmates with flower cookies and flower rice krispy treats. Today, she excitedly passed them out at school and at friends' houses (excluding one). Then, we came home to a May Basket lunch...yummy (yes, looks a lot like an Easter Basket, I know). Since Asher woke everyone up kinda early this morning (5:30 is too early for the rest of us to get up because we do not take 5 hour naps like he is taking today), the girls ate lunch and wanted to go to sleep. So, after "quiet" time, we are going out to buy some flowers. Alivia loves flowers and could not figure out why we did not have any. We will be on a real May flower hunt!

Happy May Day!
