Scotch Tasting

Last night, Chris took my Dad on a date (or did my Dad take Chris?).

Okay, those are Chris' words actually, as a joke.

Chris and my Dad went to a Scotch tasting in Omaha. My Dad and his bad influence (ha ha) have gotten Chris to drink a little scotch, with my Dad only. It sounds like they downed a few old ones (really, is this like old, moldy cheese?!) that burned as they go down (like gasoline?). Chris says he remembers talking to everyone at his table.  Chris, talking?! Wow, that is quite some scotch! I guess they had fun, and that is all that is important. Nice, male bonding or something.

Oh, and Chris got a sandwich on the way home, but he can not remember eating it. Hope he did not do anything else he can not remember. :)

Deactivated

I am officially deactivated, from facebook anyway.

I have been contemplating it for a while, for many reasons. Today turned out to be the day.

First, if you want to talk to me, talk to me, visit me, call me, or maybe text me (still not sure of that method of communication, but I am conforming). If you can not talk to me in person, than I prefer not to talk to you on facebook either. Additionally, I have people who are so nice in person, but defriend me on facebook. Really? Are we really in the second grade? I'm too old to be in the second grade or be part of second grade activity.

I find people like to add insult to injury, brag, flaunt and just be plain rude on facebook. Some can do this to your face, but most find it easier to do on facebook. I, again, don't care.

I will have friends, real friends. Not the "facebook" virtual friends. I was virtually and really getting upset by stuff in this virtual world. I have stuff in my reality to do that.

I will miss out on coupons, events, etc. But, so be it.

For now, I feel better. So much better.

Chris has selected to defriend pretty much everyone. That way he can view body rock without seeing how rude one person is or what some guy from highschool is up to, someone he does not even remember. Perhaps I will fish out my "friends" someday. This just seems easier at the moment.

Again, I feel much better in my reality, not in a virtual one.

Too Much Insanity

Chris and I are well into the Insanity work out for the second time. Gees, we did not remember how difficult the second half was! 1 hour of vigorous cardio, jumping, and more is so much work!

This time, my right foot is bothering me (remember, the first Insanity I broke my LEFT foot). It is not broken, but bruised good at least. I am plugging along at the Insanity anyway, hoping for the best, to finish. Chris has a little injury now, too, but he is a tough guy about it. So, he does not complain.

Chris and I have been throwing in a nice run here and there, too. I do feel a difference. I do have a more well defined core and muscles in my legs that I have not seen before. My butt must be more toned as it is so sore most of the time that I can hardly sit on it! :) And, I can do 16 push ups IN A ROW! Okay, for a 5'4", 100lb girl, doing A push up is impressive. I have no upper body strength, but it is improving.

Chris has toned up a bit, too. We are both seeing the difference this time, where the first time of Insanity we just felt it.

So, Insanity and all those suicide jumps, moving push ups, jumps, in and out abs, basketball jumps, power squats, mountain climbers, butt kicks, switch kicks (oh I hate these!), power lunges, full body drills, etc, etc, ...they may just work. Not sure they work well enough to do a third time, but we will see.

On the Table

With all that is going on in our household right now, I did not think anything would surprise me.

But I was wrong.

It is no secret that a couple years ago I was yearning for baby #4. Just so you know, 3 is not a good number of kiddos to have as one is always left out. In our family, the one left out is usually Addison. Addison and I share a close bond because she is so much like me. I also feel sad for her since she is left out so often. Anyway, I brought it to Chris' attention that I was ready for baby #4 after moving to Papillion 2 years ago, and Chris did not feel we had room in our home, wallets and hearts for a 4th baby. So, it was decided...we are a happy family of 5.

Until recently.

Chris dropped a big bomb on me, asking what I thought about having another baby?! What?! Um, no. Too late. We are older, the kids are older, too big of a spread between the kids, we would be older parents now (even older parents than we are now), etc, etc. Really?! What changed?!

Who knows what changed for Chris. But, it is now on the table. Really? Job insecurity, a possibly move, and he wants to throw adding a baby to the mix of Austin fun?

Perhaps if we were younger, wiser, richer, it would be a definite possibility. For now, this suggestion is just that, a suggestion. I am quite happy (and do I say blessed) with our 3 kiddos and our family of 5.

Strep in the House

It began with Addison last weekend and has now spread to Alivia and Asher...strep throat.

Addison went back to school on Wednesday and has been fine since. Yesterday, Thursday, Alivia complained of a sore throat when she woke up. But, I took her temperature and she did not have a fever. Alivia rarely complains, so I did take her seriously. With that said, I can not keep her home for every little scratchy throat. So, I gave her a little Motrin for her sore throat and sent her to school. I did tell her that if it got worse to go to the nurse, and I would come right up and get her. I was more worried than normal because Addison had strep earlier in the week and because Alivia was having a sleepover Thursday night (the girls are out of school Friday and Monday).

At noon, Asher and I went up to school to check in on Alivia. She was eating lunch with her friends and said she felt fine. Huh. Guess it was nothing.

Asher, meanwhile, developed this strange case of hives on Wednesday night. They were all over and itchy. He did have some soy crackers, so I thought maybe they were the cause. He did not have a fever. Thursday morning the hives seemed better and he acted fine, still without a fever. So, Asher and I went off to the YMCA for a bit. He was still fine. I noticed his hives coming back, creeping up his neck into his hairline, just before lunch. I took his temp; still no fever. Hum. What is this?! After lunch we were playing trucks and out of nowhere he had an accident. Asher is 4 and just does not have accidents unless something is wrong. He was crying and I knew something had changed. Now he had a low grade fever.

Sleepover was off.

We drove to pick up the girls and the girls were mad about the sleepovers being cancelled. They both stomped to their rooms to pout. Nice, eh? I went up to check on Alivia and found her snoring in bed. I took her temp and it was 102. She finally admitted to having a sore throat. Come on! She was going to deny it until I allowed the sleepover?!

Come to find out, both Alivia and Asher have strep. Hives can occur due to the strep virus. Huh, I did not know that?! Yes, I know, I am a nurse, but I do not recall seeing hives associated with strep when I worked around sick kids every day. Learn something new every day.

So, Addison and Asher are on their 10 days of antibiotics and Alivia is on her own non penicillin 10 days of medications (Alivia has a penicillin allergy). This is Asher's first antibiotic since he was one! So, he has been a challenge to give Benedryl, Motrin and antibiotic. He even vomited it all up on me the first dose. That was nice.

So, our little weekend vacation will be quiet, at least until they all are on the mend. Then, I am going to bleach my house!

Hope they feel better soon!

Ouch! These look so itchy! He itched it until he had bleeding scratches. Poor thing.

Sad hives boy.

Itchy hives.

Alivia, camped in her room with Pippa and her iPod touch.
Asher looks dopey here, but you can see the hives/rash on his head/eyes.

Valentine's Day 2012

Happy Valentine's Day!

We had a very busy day, at least it seemed that day. The kids awoke to find Valentine Treats next to their breakfast. They each got a little Valentine outfit. This may be the last year Asher will care about clothes, but we will see. I was even surprised to roses and M&Ms from Chris (anyone who knows me knows that flowers are not my favorite unless planted in the garden. But, with that said, it is nice to be surprised and loved every once in a while).

Alivia went to school while Addison was still too weak to go to school. She spent the day just trying to gain her strength and appetite back. She did not seem to mind missing her party, and was able to complete the party craft last night. She ate dinner last night, finally eating something, and had nice color to her face by bedtime.

Grandma Bet and Grandpa Bill came by to watch Asher and now Addison while I went up to school to be co room mom for Addison's party. I felt strange going without Addison, but I did not want to leave the other room Mom alone. That just did not seem right. I was lucky my parents could help me out, too.

After the party, it was time to prepare dinner. We had Lauren's Latest Pizza again (our new favorite recipe) with hot and fresh Valentine brownies for dessert. It was delicious.

We had a fun and love filled Valentine's Day. I have never been a huge fan of Valentine's Day, but I am happy to spread the love to our kids and to my hubs (who got cologne for Valentine's day).

Happy Valentine's Day!

Sick Addison

I, unfortunately, say that a lot...Addison is sick.

She has had a break, luckily, from being sick. I do not believe she has been sick since winter break, which may be a record. But, don't quote me on that.

Yesterday, Addison slept in. Addison usually falls asleep around 7 and wakes up around 6, if we are lucky. Sunday morning, she slept until 8:30. She visited her Grandparents for a bit, returning home around 11:30, going straight back up to bed. She was asleep before we realized where she was. She slept until nearly 2, waking for a while, going back to bed until I got her up. She was burning up, fever, sore throat and had that smell of strep.

A  quick 2 hour trip to urgent care proved me right...strep throat.

She is much better today with Motrin and her antibiotic. I am still not sure her Valentine's Day party is in the cards for her or not. I am thinking of sending her to school at lunch time tomorrow, maybe. We will just have to see.

Let's up our little Addison is soon on the mend and done being sick for a long, long time.

2012 Valentines

This year we made our Valentines, thanks to finding an idea on Pinterest. Chris is not a fan of Pinterest as it just seems to give him more and more things to do. :)
You're Just Write For me

Now let 's just hope Addison is well enough to go to her party!

Cousin Rodney Visits

My cousin lives in Kentucky and came to visit us on Saturday with my parents. He was just driving through our area on a little vacation with his soon to be bride. It was fun to meet her and catch up a bit. Now, it is our turn, we are told, to visit him in Kentucky.

Children's Museum: Take Construction

On Friday we met some friends at the Children's Museum to check out their latest display, the construction zone. Come to find out, everyone had the same idea. We even saw Grandma Kathy there with Asher's cousins!

We arrived shortly after 10 to a bus pulling up front. Really? I guess that was not the first of last bus to arrive on Friday. Sigh.

Anyway, we started on the main level, but the boys wanted to check out the Construction Zone upstairs. The construction zone is fun and dusty. It is different from the previous construction zone they had a year or two ago. Asher liked playing in the sand (which turns out to be very dusty rocks) and going through the tunnels. There are bulldozers to ride on and sit on, a big play semi, foam to build something out of, etc. The room is full.

Asher and Xander went over to the Richman Gordman Animals to find Grandma Kathy again, with tickets to ride the carousel. The boys had a lot of fun riding that (Thanks to Grandma Kathy!). That was quite an unexpected treat.

We played downstairs a bit before making our way in to have our indoor picnic lunch.

The boys had fun together in spite of the indoor madness. I still say Tuesday member's hour is the best time to go. Next time, our visit will be on Tuesday at 9!

A Lunch Encounter

Last Thursday morning, Asher I and I busied ourselves away from the house. We went to Zumba then went to Shadow Lake's kids club, before making our way home for lunch. I opened the pantry to a little disgusting surprise.

Mouse turds.

You see, on Tuesday, Asher and I went to Costco and I filled the pantry some more. I made cookies that night, using the mixer tucked away in the pantry.

The mouse turds were behind that very mixer, even one on the actual beater! Yuck! Yes, the beater has been sanitized. Although I really wanted to throw it out and go buy a new one. But, that would not be very "green" of me or necessary (maybe).

So, I threw lunch together (out of the fridge), then took EVERYTHING out of the pantry.

Hours passed as Asher and I had a play date/ party planning date in the afternoon to prepare for Addison's Valentine's party at school. Addison and Asher stayed behind to play while I went out to purchase clear plastic bins.

Once back at home, I tossed all of the food that was opened. Lucky for me, I was already in a habit of having cereal in containers and snacks in tupperware. Everything now goes in these clear bins. I am a few short, but that is for another shopping trip.

As for the mouse, I mean mice, not a single one in one of our many traps. COME ON!! This is so irritating! I want my cheap house that we had before moving, you know, the one that did not have mice (and we backed to a field for the majority of the time we lived there!). This is getting quite old. I better watch what I wish for as it may be coming true.

Chris did some repairs in the garage that may have fixed the problem...who knows. From now on, the mice will have nothing to eat in the house. So, that is something.

At least we hope...

January 2012 In Review

Crazy, but I may just be sad to see this past January be over. The weather was beautiful, in the 60's many days. Loved it! We tried to be outside as much as possible to absorb it while we could. We went to the zoo and forest, walking outside! We actually wore shorts outside more than one day this month.  January also brought new neighbors...Chris' parents. The kids have liked the idea that they can walk to their house.
We ended the month with not so good news...but we are hopeful for brighter months ahead.
In January, Alivia had her First Reconciliation and completed her 2nd book report, presenting first. Addison celebrated her half birthday, now 5 1/2, and started an Art Class at Arts for All with her friend Kate. Asher has just kept busy keeping busy. He likes to have many playdates and go on treat dates to Orange Leaf. Mmmm! Chris and I are now doing the 365 together! Chris is busy with his portfolio while I have kept busy working extra. Grrr. We are also onto Insanity take 2.
Now...onto snowy February and the extra day of Leap Year. Off to make the most of that extra day! :)

69 Degrees In January!

Yesterday was 69 Degrees, which is simply unheard of for January 30 in Nebraska, until Nebraska. Actually, Chris' car read into the 70s!

Asher and I went outside right after lunch, riding bikes, playing on the plasma cars, and playing in the back yard on the playset. He even invited his friend Cameron over to play. They were wild, like they were caged animals finally getting out of their cages to play.

We loaded up and went to Walnut Creek to play at the playground for a bit. The boys took their toy guns (I know, I know, but it was all in good fun and they were never inappropriate) and ran around the playground equipment. We arrived home around 3, just in time for the girls to walk home with Cameron's parents.

Chris and I took turns going on a run while the kids soaked up the sun. Cameron went with his parents while his sister Zoe stayed behind to play. The road the jeep, roller skating, played with chalk, and anything else they have wanted to play with but did not want to when it was cooler out. Really, we could not ask for a better winter.

For dinner, we celebrated Alivia's book report success (and that she went first) with a promised treat to Freddy's. I believe this was topper of a beautiful January day!

We have survived January. I do fear February and March, however. But, it is one less month that we have to endure winter.

I look for the good news wherever I can.

Asher and his friend Cameron (Cam is shooting me!).

8th Catholic Wedding Anniversary

Tomorrow Chris and I will be married 8 years, at least in the eyes of the Catholic Church (12 1/2 in the eyes of the law). So, Chris recruited his Mom to come and watch the kids for a couple hours so we could go to dinner.

By dinner, we do not mean anything fancy. On the heals of Chris' news, we did not want to go anywhere remotely fancy. Actually, I was not even sure if I was up for eating (Drinking sounded better! And, I have not done much of that since college! Scary, I know). We ended up at Panera where we thought we could sit in a quiet spot and talk. Low and behold, a large group plopped down next to us with their little baby. Yes, we moved. I wanted QUIET!

It was not the date night we had envisioned, but at least we were able to talk a bit uninterrupted. Two hours later, we were at home in time to put two of three kids to bed. Hopefully, sometime soon, we can take a real date, spending real money, and have some real drinks (diet Pepsi does not count).

8 years, 3 babies, living in 2 homes...we have done quite well for ourselves. Who knows what the next few years bring, but it looks not to be boring to say the least.

Bad News Friday

Friday seemed like any other day. We got up, did our thing, Daddy came home from work, we went to Family Zumba followed by the traditional pizza for dinner.

But, it was not a typical day. Chris had a sudden urgent meeting at work. He and his buddies wondered if it was one of those meetings. You know, like the one he had January 2 years ago, just a month after we moved closer to his work. In that meeting, they told Chris he had 3 months to work and then find a new job or 6 months to work at base, then find a new job. Luckily, he had ties with someone within the company who hired him (and saved us!).

Well, it unfortunately was one of those meetings. He has a few months, then they just don't know. He is being moved to a different division within the company (along with others in his division all under the same boss) under a contract that ends in June. When that contract is up, they just don't know what will happen, what will open up, or what will not open up. Really, we are looking at this as he has until June or he is unemployed, more than likely.

This is different than the last time. Chris walked over to talk to the guys where he worked before his last switch 2 years ago. He found all 40 some employees gone! Where did they all go?! He is guessing some to base, some perhaps relocated, some let go. There was only one guy that he was aware of let go in his current division. It just does not look good. Besides, they do not treat employees very well...and we are tired of it! Chris is the breadwinner, and we really can not live on my PRN nursing status where I only work when needed (and when I feel like skipping a night of sleep). My job is either feast of famine.

So, everything is on hold. I picked up shifts at work (meaning no more sleep) so we can build more savings in the event of Chris losing his job. The housing market is not good here, where we have watched our friends house in our neighborhood just sit on the market. We do not have some grand movie room, a 5th bedroom, or a wet bar (we rarely drink...so what would we do with it?!), all things that people are looking for in their home around here, it appears. So, our house may sit on the market for a while if it comes to that. Meaning, we better be prepared. Chris' dreams of getting a new car for his birthday (along with his kayak) are on hold, while our vacation plans to Disney next winter seem to be stuck at just that, plans. We have heard about how bad the economy is, but now we are seeing it first hand. President Obama has cut Chris' field and the department of defense down to nothing. So, Chris will definitely be getting out of the government contract work. Chris has had 3 jobs (within his company) just since Obama took office. Let's just say I am not sporting an "I love President Obama" t-shirt.

So we are entering 2012 foreseeing a big year of change. Chris will for sure be getting a new job, his first he starts on Wednesday within his company. His next...??? We just hope he finds one locally and saves us a move. But, with that said, he has no choice but to apply everywhere in the next few months, and he will take the best offer in the best location, Papillion or not. Moving is definitely not our first option. But, we have to be realistic. Chris works in a big company with many employees who will be out looking for similar jobs to Chris.I am not sure our area has THAT many openings, many of which are probably being filled by ones cut before Chris.

So, let's go job hunting. Fun. I will be looking for a full time job as June approaches if nothing else has turned up. I do not want to have a full time job if Chris finds one as I do not know where Chris' job will be located, and we need someone to care for the kiddos. So many unanswered questions.

In the mean time, I am Chris' headhunter. I don't know what he does exactly, but I kinda have an idea of what he wants to do in his next job. So, let's see what I can come up with and where and when. Now all we need is some good luck.

Best Home Made Pizza!

Okay, I do believe we have found the best home made pizza! To top it off, it is easy to make! And, mmmm! Here is the link for the recipe. Try it out and enjoy!

PIZZA RECIPE from Laurenslatest. Love her blog!

Chris had to add onion and forgot to take a picture when it was cooked. But, here it is!

Another Lost Tooth

Alivia has had a loose for probably 6 weeks or more. She rarely wriggles it, like most kids do, and really hates to see the teeth go. It is weird, right?

Well, it was hanging on by a thread Monday evening when she brushed her teeth. I encouraged her to pull it out, and she quickly whined that it would hurt. She insisted on leaving it alone.

Bedtime came and her tooth still hung on. Within a half hour, however, Alivia came downstairs with her tooth in hand. As it turns out, she sneezed and the tooth could not hold on. How funny! Alivia has now lost 4 teeth! The tooth fairy was very ill prepared, and gave her a $2 bill for this tooth. Alivia had not seen a $2 bill and thought that was pretty neat. Whew!

Here is Alivia minus one more tooth...

Young at Heart

Funny, until a couple years ago, I never really thought I was old. I did not even think about it. Maybe it was because I was too busy with little kids to even worry about it.

Now, I feel old, and it sucks.

I no longer share my age, although most people already know that I am older than they are. Actually, I only have one friend that is my age and one friend that is older than me and the rest of my friends are younger. Those facts make me feel even older. I can not find anyone my age to relate to this aging thing with.

I mean, gray hair. Yes, I have a lot of gray hair. But, this started in my 20s. I can blame my genetics for that a bit, although my Mom blames my teens. Who knows, I have it. It is costly to cover up in the salon, so I color with box colors mostly for lower maintenance.

Wrinkles, I have a few. I try not to look in the mirror anymore. Lucky for me, the mirrors in our house are awful, so I can not see myself anyway. I really noticed my self loathing when I took selfies on the 365 project. Gees, I looked bad. I looked worse with lack of sleep, which seems to be happening more and more. Gees, aging sucks. I guess that is why there is make up.

The only thing I have control over is staying in shape. That is why Chris and I beat our bodies working out. We want to look good naked for one (ha ha), and working out keeps us young. We also have 3 kids to chase after, so we can not afford to be couch potatoes!

So, you can call me old all you want, but I am young at heart. I may not look like I am 18, but I feel like I am. And, who knows, I can probably even run faster than I did at 18!

Music That Makes Me Run

Nothing can actual MAKE a person run, I realize. With that said, I do have some songs on my iPod right now that make it difficult to just walk. These are a few of my favorites, no judging.

1.  LMFAO - Sexy and I know it

2. David Guetta/Akon - Sexy Chick Okay, mine is the original lyrics, but Sexy Chick is what I Zumba to at the YMCA.

3. Lady Gaga - Edge of Glory

4. Maroon 5, Christina Aguilera - Moves Like Jagger

5.   Lady Gaga - You and I I will admit, I love my Nebraska guy, so this may have something to do with liking this one.
6. Ke$ha - Your Love Is My Drug

#6 is questionable. I repeat the ones I like a lot.

So, what's on your playlist?
